Youth Development

Our Youth Workforce Development Initiative (YWDI) prepares high school students and young adults to develop their knowledge, skills, and talents to successfully find their path to gainful employment.

North Light engages more than 400 youth, ages 12-20 with year-round programs that provide leadership training, life skills and workforce development training, mentoring, civic engagement and academic supports. We bridge the opportunity gap and empower youth to leverage meaningful career pathways. Our programs are offered in-school, after-school and during the summer, helping students achieve academically, and to prepare for college and career success.

FUSE – FUSE was created to bridge current program offerings: FUSE gives North Light the opportunity to create a true continuum of care for those children, teens, and young adults – as well as their families – who rely on our services. Particularly in the inner city schools that most North Light children and teens come from, courses like this are not often available in the regular academic curriculum. Even in affluent school districts, it is rare to have access to creative and talented mentors at the level our partnerships with Kognition and TerryLeahyFilms have, with a willingness to mentor North Light and neighborhood teens.

TEEMworks (Teaching Employment Engagement Mentorship works) is a new program being launched under North Light’s Youth Workforce Development Initiative (YWDI.) The program’s goal is to empower future leaders for job market readiness upon graduating from our customized STEM & trades-related training program.
