The artists will open their studios to the public at the 25th Annual Mill Studios Open House, Saturday, November 4, 2017, 11AM-5 PM, and for the first time, the children in North Light’s KidZone program will have their own exhibit. The Mill is located at the intersection of Umbria Street and Leverington Avenue in Manayunk. Once again, there will be a show of 5×7 inch works by Mill Artists to benefit North Light Community Center in 2nd floor lounge of the Baker Street entrance.
Artists working in the disciplines of painting, sculpture, photography, crafts, jewelry and Judaica will be available in their studios to speak with visitors about their work in a non-gallery setting. Admission, parking and refreshments are free. For more information: www.millstudios.org.
Since the first Open House in 1992, the Mill Studios have provided full and part time artists a community environment in which to create their work. Originally, the Mill building was a textile mill built within easy access to the historic Manayunk Canal. In the early fifties, the building served as a warehouse for a family business until its conversion to artist studios in 1990. In the forties and fifties, Mill II was the home of a popular boxing club. Many of the architectural features, including the boxing ring gallery are still intact.
