North Light Gets Greener and Healthier

Fan Louvers

The big gym at North Light now has energy efficient lighting thanks to a grant from PECO’s DSP Usage Reduction program. In fact, all of the lighting, interior and exterior, has been replaced. John F. Scanlan, Inc. donated an enormous louvered fan system to upgrade the HVAC and will circulate more effectively air through the gym. Additionally, all of the room air conditioners are new energy saving units. Even the old vending machines are gone and have been replaced with one containing healthier snacks and non-soda beverages.

The bathrooms have also undergone extensive updating. New water-saving toilets and automatic on/off sinks were donated anonymously by a local plumbing and heating supply company. Stanley’s Hardware supplied hand rails. Paper towel dispensers have been replaced by hand dryers. The tiled floors have been power washed and are being regrouted. New mirrors gifted by Tony’s Glassworks and colorful stall partitions complete the bathroom renovations.

Combined with a grant from the Nonprofit Facilities Fund Philadelphia Child Care Initiative, almost $200,000 is being invested in facility upgrades.
