Winter/Spring 2021 Virtual Education Lab

Due to the School District of Philadelphia’s decision to start the first marking period of the 2020-2021 school year as a fully virtual program, North Light Community Center has made the decision to offer a Virtual Education Lab for students (grades 9-12) at Roxbourgh, MLK and Strawberry Mansion High Schools. This program will operate at North Light Community Center on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for teens needing a safe place with access to Internet for participating in their online classes. North Light will offer educational supports (i.e. tutoring) as well as ensuring teens have opportunities for social and emotional connections with their peers.

Technology Courses

In partnership with BSD Education, North Light provides a weekly course for 11th and 12th graders called TechFuture: Connect2Work. Students will be introduced to the building blocks that make up the web: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. They will explore the fundamentals of web development and video game design. Students will build an online portfolio of games and websites that can be shared with family, friends, and future employers. This course is a career-related program designed to train students in real world, transferable skills making them employment and career ready.
