Job Description
  • The Director of Children’s Services is responsible for all aspects of delivering quality, affordable childcare services that meet the physical, intellectual, social, emotional and recreational needs of children (ages 4 -12). The Director is also responsible for overseeing both our before and aftercare program during the school year as well as our 8 week summer camp. The goal is to ensure a safe, fun and educational atmosphere that promotes children’s self-confidence and love of learning. This person is also responsible for overseeing the DHS licensure for our childcare center and ensuring that we are in compliance with all regulations.

  • Responsibilities
  •  Supervise Childcare Group Supervisors, Assistant Group Supervisors, Aides, and Volunteers; provide regular supervision and development of staff including facilitating annual evaluations and goal setting.
  •  Work with behavioral health providers to understand the tools needed to work with children with special needs. Implement behavioral plans in partnership with teachers to ensure children can be successful in our program.
  •  Maintain meticulous personnel and program records to ensure compliance with DHS licensure and other applicable regulatory agencies.
  •  Plan, implement and evaluate program activities; coordinate age appropriate opportunities for enrichment activities, events and/or services for children
  •  Work with the Executive Director to plan the annual budget and ensure management of program expenses.
  •  Track and report on annual program statistics
  •  Ensure cleanliness and safety standards are maintained
  •  Nurture and sustain positive relationships with parents/caregivers
  •  Develop and maintain working relationships with applicable school personnel and other program partners; act as a liaison to Villanova University for our childcare related programs.
  •  Assist Executive Director in evaluating feasibility of moving program from a Keystone Start 1 program to a higher level.
  • Qualifications
  •  Have ONE of the following educational credentials:
  • 1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children, OR
  • 2. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 2 years of experience with children, OR
  • 3. An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 3 years of experience with children, OR
  • 4. An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 4 years of experience with children.
  •  Have or be cleared through child abuse, criminal background, FBI, and national sex offender clearances
  •  Computer literacy including proficiency with office technology, databases, email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.; proficiency using Brightwheel (childcare management software) or similar system preferred
  •  A commitment to North Light’s mission and role in the community.
  •  Strong communication skills; ability to communicate clearly in person and in writing.
  •  Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills to effectively work with diverse individuals (colleagues, board members, volunteers, donors, constituents), both one-to-one as well as in groups.
  •  Relate well to children
  •  Valid driver’s license and safe driving record

  • Work Schedule
  • Full time salaried position (40 hours/week); ability to work some evenings and occasional weekends (3-4 per year)

  • The salary is commensurate with experience. North Light Community Center offers employees with a competitive salary and benefits package which includes the following:
  •  Medical and Dental Insurance (North Light covers 60% of premium; employee has 40% copay).
  •  North Light Community Center pays 100% of the cost of Long Term Disability & Group Life Insurance Policies and makes a quarterly employer contribution to a Defined Contribution Retirement Plan after one year of employment.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy & Revenue Generation

  • Plans direct and implements a comprehensive development program that generates individual donors, foundation, federal, state, city, philanthropic, and corporate support.
  • Directs a fund development program that includes the annual fund plan; federal, state and city grants; foundation and corporate gifts; special events and planned giving.
  • Oversees and implements strategies that will grow annual revenue, write proposals and secure funding from federal, state, city, corporate and foundation donors.
  • Leads strategies and research to identify, prioritize, cultivate, solicit, recognize and steward all donors and prospects.
  • In coordination with the Executive Director, builds and sustains relationships with all stakeholders, i.e. current, new and potential grant-giving organizations and individuals.
  • Maintains an accurate grants calendar and transmits this information monthly to the Executive Director.
  • Manages individual donor campaigns, including special appeals.
  • Works to secure progressive and/or socially responsible business partners/sponsors for projects and events.
  • Manages donor database – creates profiles and tracks donors and prospects.
  • Develops, markets and implements a planned giving program to ensure long-term financial health.
  • Assists Executive Director in working with the Board of Directors to enhance development efforts.

Management

  • Performs general management responsibilities, including annual plans, budgets, reports, and evaluation and oversight of gift tracking systems.
  • Prepares annual development plan for corresponding budget outlining revenue and expenses; monitors progress against goals and produces monthly reports.

Communications & Marketing

  • Oversee the organization’s website to ensure content is current, mission-aligned, and donor-focused.
  • Manages North Light’s social media presence by creating and posting relevant and engaging content that strengthens community and donor engagement.
  • Produces and distributes a monthly electronic newsletter highlighting organizational impact, program updates, and fundraising priorities.
  • Develops and maintains high-quality marketing and fundraising materials, including brochures, donor communications, and event collateral.
  • Collaborate with staff to gather stories, photos, and program outcomes that effectively communicate North Light’s mission and impact.
  • Represents the Organization at public events, conferences, workshops and media events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience in charitable fund development.
  • Strong knowledge of principles, ethics and practices of successful fundraising.
  • Knowledge of local and national philanthropic communities.
  • Computer literacy and competency with office technology and electronic donor tracking systems.
  • Demonstrated success in securing major and annual gifts from foundations and corporations.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting annual fund goals, development management, grant writing, sponsorships and special events.
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting and securing major gifts from individuals.
  • Ability to lead multiple long and short-term projects simultaneously, meeting all related deadlines.
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills to effectively work with diverse individuals (colleagues, board members, volunteers and donors), both one-to-one as well as in groups.
  • Understands the confidential nature of fundraising efforts and donor information and maintains confidence.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.

We have several openings for childcare staff. Positions are part-time hourly position (approximately 20 hours/week) responsible for providing quality care for children participating in North Light’s school age childcare programs by meeting their needs in a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for their parent/caregivers.
