Youth Leadership Council

North Light’s Youth Leadership Council (YLC) started in January, 2015 with funding from the Youthadelphia grant from the Philadelphia Foundation. The program’s motto is “Step Up and Ignite the Change” and is geared towards 7th – 9th graders participating or connected to North Light’s teen programs.

YLC meets twice a month on Saturdays and is open to all neighborhood youth.

During the program, they’ve attended various events such as MLK Day of Service and Rally, Spoken Word events.  With money raised at North Light’s Gatsby Gala & Auction in May of 2015, seven teens were able to spend a long weekend in Washington, DC. While there, they volunteered at a pop-up food cupboard run by Martha’s Table, toured the Newseum, Smithsonian’s African Art Museum, visited the George Washington University & Hospital, and had dinner with their mentors.
