More than ever, the importance of living greener lifestyles and our role in preserving our planet for future generations is crucial. Therefore, this year’s campers will be Going Green in an effort to promote the importance of adopting greener habits. Campers will focus on clean energy initiatives and urban agriculture, how they benefit the community and, most importantly, our environment.
In addition to Going Green, we will also incorporate elements from last year’s theme of Farm to Fork. Campers will have the opportunity to participate in cooking lessons that reinforce ideas of sustainable gardening and the health benefits of eating fresh, locally grown, organic food. To help reinforce the camp theme, campers will explore their natural urban environment through field trips in and around the city. We will visit Weaver’s Way, Gorgas Park, John Heinz Refuge Center, the Teens 4 Good Farm at The Schuylkill Center, Bartram’s Garden and Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia’s first renewable energy stadium.
Traditional activities including the Talent Show, Field Day, computer lab activities, and the Camp BBQ will be included. Campers will also participate in recreational trips, such as bowling and skating. Specialists will implement arts and crafts, music, dance and literacy during the week. Breakfast, lunch, and a nutritious snack are provided daily.
